RAWsome MealsTM

The RAWsome Meals Story

On January 4th, 2017 I flew back to Los Angeles with a rescue named Ginger. She’d been a companion to a dog that ate his kibble and following his example ate enough kibble to stay alive, but lived with runny stools. As a child we fed our dog Ken-L-Ration, which is no longer available and without her kibble-eating companion to set the example, Ginger wouldn't eat kibble, no matter the brand or price. I tried a variety of food ideas I found online. None worked and I was at a loss until discovering the documentary, Pet Fooled, which introduced me to species-appropriate nutrition. After extensive research and some trial and error I was able to  develop a set of recipes that deliver the full range of essential nutrients a dog (or cat) needs. Ginger's new meals added muscle, refined her definition, reduced shedding, produced small, healthy stools, fresh breath and proved to be dog-delicious. But though my new Boxer-mix was eating the best meals of her young life she suffered from what I would learn to be Boxer colitis. Ignorant of this "chronic condition" I took a deeper dive into canine nutrition in search of a solution. What I discovered was that our meals were missing the fermentation consumed when a carnivore eats whole prey. Unfortunately, our human-grade production facility is not allowed to include the bacteria and microorganisms that create fermentation, so I tried adding raw apple cider vinegar to her meals. It worked, but she continued to eat grass between meals. Next, I tried low-sodium organic sauerkraut to add fiber to the fermentation, and her grass-eating stopped. Of course, I had to try replacing a portion of her meals with whole prey. Mother Nature didn’t disappoint. We've since won two international awards for most innovative pet meals and been nominated for a third for 2023.

Ginger, is now 8 years old and maintains the physique and energy of a much younger, healthy pup, thanks to RAWsome Meals.
